A personal message and thoughts from David Humphreys, Owner/Director, North Bay Railway Owner

Just over Fourteen years ago I took over the railway from Scarborough Borough Council. Fourteen years later in line with most other local attractions we have temporarily closed, with most of our staff being furloughed. What a difference between last year and the one now that as country and worldwide we find ourselves in. Let us all hope that this crisis ends quickly.

The North Bay Railway team would like (and is planning), to get going in summer but as always, we will monitor the situation. I would like to offer my sincere gratitude to the large number of enthusiasts and customers that have supported us over the last few years and will do so again when we get started again.

Everyone is now experiencing pain of some sort, whether it be inconvenience to everyday life, the loneliness of isolation or the tragic scenes of illness and what that can potentially bring. We now see every day extreme hardship in our communities in particular the vulnerable members of society and our wonderful NHS struggling, and this should put into context other material problems.

The magnificent locomotives, infrastructure and railway will not disappear because they are out of use, they have merely gone to sleep to be awoken again; even if financially the business struggles our locos, infrastructure and railways will survive in some form as they have done before.

This pandemic has been a reality check for us all, going forward for some time there will be reduced disposable income.

However, to the best of my ability, I will ensure North Bay Railway will survive and as a team, we will overcome the present difficulties and the great days will come back again.

To all our friends and supporters, I wish you all the very best of health and Good Luck and hope to see you all the other side of this crisis.

David Humphreys
